I knew I was being taken for a ride when I was dealing with Overton Fireplaces but was trapped and couldn't do anything about it. Now I've had a second opinion I know for sure they conned me out of over a thousand pounds worth of unecessary work. I was convinced by the guy that runs it that I needed a flu liner (£900) but my chimney sweep confirmed that this was completely unecessary. My house was built in the late seventies and the chimney stack was built up of pots. I raised this as a point when having the assessment as I couldn;t see why I would need a lining. I was told that the Stovax approved installers wouldn't sign off without a lining as it wouldn't be safe. Safety being the number one priority I agreed to pay the extra for a lining. The installers also charged me £250 to replace my chimney pot... unbelieveably extortionate but my hands were tied; they wouldn't complete the work without replacing the pot. Again I have since found out that with a wood burning stove cracks in the existing chimney pot are very common and the replacement was unecessary. £900 + £250 was conned out of me - get a second opinion and don't let them con you! Apparently this practice is commonplace for Overton Fireplaces.
