Very well organised, Neil (the Race Director) was great - will be back soon!
Absolutely the best birthday party ever says George (age 12) Me and my friends were totally blasted by the karting and could not have had a better time. Even my dad thought it was terrific value for money (he was the one who paid). Thanks to all - great job.
Go Carts were advertised as fastest in the UK, I highly doubt this as mine was slowish to start with the lost charge so quickly it was noticable after the first session. The main problem was with the head office booking team, the girls there are absolutely clueless and constantly rang me or emailed me or texted me to either - change my booking time, ask me to pay online after already agreeing to pay on the day (twice) or sending texts and emails with the wrng number of drivers listed (twice). And when I got to the track, the poor guys there had no idea some aprties were booked so we had to wait after being asked to turn up early! GRRR.
My partner and I took the 2 boys yesterday (aged 14 and 12) with the Groupon offer which was 4 sessions of 15 laps and we had a GREAT time. Not sure I would pay £40 pp but if Groupon do the deal again we will be going back. Staff were very friendly and helpful, thoroughly ebjoyable evening had by all. Thanks!
We all had a great time at the Reading track yesterday. Cars were fast and the smooth track made for great skidding. Staff were professional and friendly. I look forward to coming back!
We knew that the karts were electric - we had noticed that there was an engine missing from the pictures! Also the pamphlet supplied shows a 'charging area', so this was a bit of a give-away! I had not used electric karts before - I found that the performance from the karts was similar to a single-engined 'standard' kart. There were 26 of us and we had opted for the Grand Prix event (7 people x 5 heats x 5 laps) followed by a final of 8 people x 10 laps. We had the odd issue where occasionally a kart would stop - the marshals were quick on the uptake and resolved issues quickly. I was very pleased with the layout of the circuit and the performance of the karts, but being number 13 didn't help me! The Reading facility does not have on-site catering, just bar-snacks, so if you get there and haven't eaten then you might end up a bit hungry. The Tesco Express just down the road was a god-send in that respect. For the size of the circuit the power of the karts was more than adequate - also it meant that the less-confident racers were able to keep up and make more of a race. For an after-work laugh and a not-too-serious time I recommend this!
The facilities are state of the art, and very clean. The issues started when the instructor told us that they were electric karts and you could expect 8 minutes driving from them before they lost power. 8 minutes was a slight over exaggeration, and because you could only get 5 or 6 minutes from a kart, meant that the second kart in the pits could not charge fully. By the end of the sessions, we had to have 1 kart replaced, 1 kart died on the circuit and the replacement lasted about 3 laps (20 seconds per lap) before it died. It may be just me, but when I pay for karting, I would like to stay out on track for longer than 3 laps at a time, and be able to maintain full power for all of the time I am on track. Clearly electric karts have a long way to go, and I certainly will not be going back there to race again. If you want a real karting experience, go to Daytona in Milton Keynes.
